G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Another classic toy and cartoon franchise comes to the big screen. This time it's G.I. Joe, and like other recent toy-based movie adaptations, this one doesn't disappoint. M.A.R.S. owner James McCullen (Christopher Eccleston) has created a nanotechnology-based weapon capable of destroying an entire city and sells it to NATO.
"Orphan"

In "Orphan," Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John Coleman (Peter Sarsgaard) are having problems in their marriage after the couple's third child is stillborn. The loss is hardest on Kate, who is recovering from a drinking problem that caused her to lose her job.
"State of Play"

Based on the BBC miniseries, this story of political scandal is sort of a throwback. It is told from the floor of a newsroom. Russell Crowe plays an old-school journalist, putting the role of a newspaper man in perspective.
"Duplicity"

I was talking to a friend of mine who had just watched this film and his review went something like this: "It tried to be too smart for its own good, by the end of the film, I didn't even care." Then I was talking to my...

"land of the lost"

For those die-hard fans of the original Saturday morning show that feel betrayed by this loosely-based film: C'mon, it was an awful show. It had terrible acting, super-bad special effects and laughable plots and the show tried to take itself way too seriously. The original show was a stoner's dream, 30 minutes of...
"year one"

Harold Ramis, the writer/director of this film, is a man of extremes. On one extreme, Ramis has directed comedy classics such as "Caddyshack," "Nation Lampoon's Vacation" and "Groundhog's Day." On the other extreme, this actor-turned-director has helmed the monstrously bad...
"Sunshine Cleaning"

Why is it that all the best dramedies have "Sunshine" in the title? "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "Little Miss Sunshine" and now "Sunshine Cleaning" all have the right balance of drama and comedy. It is easy to lose that balance, to teeter one way or the...
"The Brothers Bloom"

There can be some real problems with movies that deal with con artists. Plots can be so convoluted that the audience can get lost to the point of giving up or caring about the characters. Another problem is with the characters themselves.
"Away We Go"

This movie takes some time to get used to. A Sam Mendes film starring a couple of TV stars sounds like a recipe for disaster. You may know Mendes from his past endeavors - "American Beauty," "Road to Perdition," "Jarhead" and "Revolutionary Road." There are similar themes in all of these...
"Obsessed"

Let me start by saying three nice things. First, I think the lead actor from this movie is a fine actor; Idris Elba has done some fine work in the past. Second, Ali Larter is great on TV's "Heroes." And third, I love Beyonce's music. I mean come on, Destiny's Child was...
"Observe and Report"

Every once in awhile, two big movies come out in the same year that deal with the same subject matter - just look back to 1998. In `98, "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact" both smashed into theaters during the summer. "Armageddon" was the big budget action film, where the guys save the day and all is well in the world.
"17 Again"

Yes, you have seen it before. The concept of the parent going back to his/her teenage years to fix all the mistakes and undo all of the missteps only to realize that those mistakes and missteps are what make the person who they are. Oh, and don't forget how fun it can be to put a middle-aged person in a teenager's body.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Crank: High Voltage
