Crank: High Voltage
When watching this sequel to 2006’s “Crank,” there is a clear-cut star emerging from the opening credits – the soundtrack. This movie moves in a rapid-fire pace and the scenes work in perfect tandem with Mike Patton’s score – electronica, punk and heavy metal in all the right places. This is a movie for the absurdist in us all. Picking up exactly where the last one left off, scraping Jason Statham off the street with a shovel and propelling him through scene after scene of outlandish action. It is clear that this is as much a comedy as an action movie, containing about half-a-dozen fight sequences that end in someone kicking or hitting someone else in the genitals – I almost started counting. It is silly, it is action-packed and it is funny. Statham has made a nice career out of over-the-top action films that keep spinning off sequels, upping the ante on how far you can actually suspend reality. Most are far-fetched but they are a ball to watch – no pun intended. If you are a fan of the absurd – rent this one and watch it with the sound booming.
