Selective Tourism
I wanted to comment on the Oktoberfest, presented by the Weekly Surge and Festival Promotions held in Valor Park at The Market Common, 3-7 p.m., on Oct. 3.
I, along with my wife and friends, attended the spring Beer Festival at the same location. It was terrific, and we all had a great time. I was sad to see the Oktoberfest is being held the same weekend as the Fall Bike Rally. Since our brand of tourists are not allowed in the city limits (due to our exhaust pipes), we won't be able to attend (although we'll be only a mile away at Harley-Davidson!). It's too bad, because this type of event is something biker tourists would gladly support. Keep up the great work, but remember the effect of your mayor and city council on once-loyal Myrtle Beach visitors. A location west of the Intracoastal would have been optimal (although Market Common is a great place, we've only visited twice this year, unlike our frequent visits in the past).

Dear Larry,
All we can say is: you missed it. But, we understand; you're making a point. We saw a few of your brand of tourist (those on two motorized wheels) at Oktoberfest, but realize it probably would have been more if the festival site was outside the city limits and if the city government hadn't enacted anti-motorcycle ordinances and declared itself out of the bike rally business.
