Saturday - Verlon Thompson

With a name that means nothing to the average Joe, but everything to the die-hard singer/songwriter fan, Verlon Thompson is typical of the type and caliber of performer scheduled at a SXSE Music Feast. Thompson, an accomplished guitarist, banjo picker and singer, has written songs recorded by Kenny Rogers, Sam Bush, Pam Tillis, Trisha Yearwood, Suzy Bogguss, Randy Travis and many others. Thompson’s YouTube video “The Guitar” (www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_Lkg7GsKQQ) should convince you of this veteran’s talents.

Aug. 16 – Sweet Nell and the Feast and Friends

SXSE Music Instrument Drive at Liberty Tap Room, 7651 N. Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, featuring Sweet Nell and the Feast and Friends (no cover, 4:30 p.m.). Donate a used instrument in any reasonable condition if you can, and party on the patio with the popular local band, guests and SXSE supporters.

Sept. 12 – The Believers

Indie rock? Alt-country? You decide. With a sound that has been described as “Johnny Cash jamming with The White Stripes,” this band plays limited engagements from Nashville’s Bluebird Café to The Evening Muse in Charlotte, N.C., to shows in Florida. The band is fronted by a male/female team who met in Seattle and have been belting out tunes ever since.

Nov. 7 – The Youngers

This roots rock quintet from Pennsylvania formed in 2001 and in 2007 was able to enlist the producer skills of John Carter Cash, of the fabled Nashville Carter/Cash dynasty. The band is touring in support of the Cash-produced project “Heritage,” which, like most Americana music, transcends any single style, yet is held together by the common elements of mandolin, fiddle, guitars and story-based songs.

Dec. 5 – Christmas Party

(featured act yet to be determined)
