TASTE TEST:
A COMPARISON OF THREE SWEET TEA VODKAS
Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, produced in Wadmalaw Island near Charleston and Frankfurt, Ky.: Firefly’s combination of Charleston Tea Plantation leaves, four-times distilled vodka, cane sugar from Louisiana, and a touch of muscadine wine makes this vodka accessible, refreshing, and way too easy to drink, so be careful. Look for a 750 milliliter bottle in the $17-$18 range.
Sweet Carolina Sweet Tea Vodka, producedin Lewiston, Maine: Sweet Carolina leans heavily on a syrupy sweetness that smacks of concentrate, and the vodka leaves a bit of a bite. A 750 milliliter bottle runs about $15-16.
Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea, produced in Norwalk, Conn.: Jeremiah Weed has a hearty tea-leaf flavor. While still deserving its sweet-tea name, it’s not as sweet as Firefly and Sweet Carolina. A 750 milliliter bottle will cost your around $18-$19.
